The Bellville Valley is the longest of the valleys and an ideal situation for a skiing domain, wide and open with a north/south orientation. The sudden exodus of population at the beginnings of the 1960s caused the mayor of Saint Martin de Bellville to call for a study on tourism development. The first building in Les Menuires were the start of the touristic success of the valley, that, at the beginning of the 1970s would lead to the creation of the highest resort in the 3 Vallees and Europe - Val Thorens – located at the foot of the Peclet mountain range.
