All terrain

Dates: weeks commencing 23 January, 6 February, 27 February, 19 March 2016

Duration:  20 hours coaching, 4 hours per day

Skill level:  Intermediate skiers /  advanced and experts (minimum level would be Level 5 on our scale)

Course content: This 20 hour course is our most popular one and is aimed at developing the skills needed to ski the entire mountain.  Our coaches will work on your technical piste skiing then use these skills in an all terrain environment. The focus will then be to explore skiing on steeper sopes bumps and some off piste. The course is very much designed around your individual goals and the instructor will always ask these questions on day one. It’s about your skiing aspirations. Where we come in is developing a specific plan to get there. We have some of the best instructors in the French Alps – who are not only terrific skiers but are passionate about improving people’s skiing. We now all work with video and iPad feedback. This means we can video your skiing in the morning then use the iPad for playback either over a coffee or lunch. This works well and makes a real difference.

Supplement: £150 per person / £280 per person for non skivo2 guests

Times: 11.30 - 16:00hrs over 5 days

Access will be via ski lifts (no ski touring is involved in this course)

Dates: weeks commencing 23 January, 5 March, 5 April 2016

Duration: All day

Coaches:  Dave Beattie, Tom Kenny, Rob Watson and Joe Kenny

Skill level:  Confident skiers with a sense of adventure who enjoy going off the beaten track!

Winter course content: It's the height of winter in Courchevel and this all day course will explore the outer reaches of this huge ski area. January generally provides the best powder month in the Alps and our coaches will spend their day taking you to the very best pitches and terrain. This course is based almost entirely off piste and you need to be equipped accordingly for back country skiing. You will need transceiver, shovel and probe. You can hire this locally if needed.

Spring course content: This all day course will explore the outer reaches of Les Trois Vallées ski domain. It's the perfect time of year to enjoy the magical experience of 'corn/spring' snow and enjoy skiing all over the valleys. Our team of coaches not only know where to find the very best snow but also where it is at specific times of the day. They will move around the mountain finding the best pitches and terrain as the sun softens the snow and this makes for an amazing ski experience. Although we will return to the chalet each evening you will need to be fully equipped for back country skiing with transceiver, shovel and probe. You can hire this locally if needed.

Equipment needed: 30 litre winter rucksack; water bottle / hydration pack; suncream (factor 50+); sunhat; warm hat, sunnies; goggles; avalanche kit - transceiver, shovel, probe (*)
(*) can be rented in resort

Supplement: £250 per person / £320 per person for non skivo2 guests

Introduction to ski touring back country adventures

all-terain.jpg

Dates:  weeks commencing 27 February, 19 March 2016

Duration: All day

Coaches:  Rob Watson and Tom Kenny

Skill level: Confident back country skiers with a sense of adventure!

Course content: New for 2016 this course will focus on taking skiers in back country ski fields only accessible with ski touring equipment. It may also involve a night in a refuge but this would depend on snow conditions at the time. There will be an introduction to ski touring equipment and how to use and look after it (skis, bindings, boots, poles, skins).  We will also show you the basic touring technique skills (gliding, kick turns, route planning) and avalanche awareness (using transceiver, shovel , probe, etc).  We will also focus on terrain choices so you are always safe and experiencing maximum enjoyment on the slopes (where to go, what time of day, aspect, weather, snow conditions).  Snow conditions in the back country are not always champagne powder in sunshine - in fact this is quite rare but a real sense of adventure and achievement is gained from a great day in the back country.  A typical day will include warm up skiing (if skiing from resort), assessment of off piste and intended route, 1 -2 hour skinning uphill, picnic lunch, off piste skiing (variable conditions).

Equipment needed: 30 litre winter rucksack; water bottle / hydration pack; suncream (factor 50+); sunhat; warm hat, additional light layers of clothing; sunnies; goggles; skis, boots and skins (*); avalanche kit - transceiver, shovel, probe (*)
(*) can be rented in resort

Supplement: £250 per person / £320 per person for non skivo2 guests

Times: 09.00 - 16:00hrs over 5 days and we may ski out of resort a couple of days

Bumps

Dates:  week commencing 9 April 2016

Duration: All day

Coaches:  Tom Kenny and Joe Kenny

Skill level:  Good intermediate skiers /  advanced and experts (minimum level would be Level 6 on our scale)

Course content:  During the last few seasons Tom Kenny has run a Bumps Specific Week.  This time of year is definitely the best time to run a course like this when you get great bumps in the late morning and afternoon as the snow softens (it makes them easier too which we all like!).  Generally the morning is spent working on drills and skills specific to bump skiing when the snow is firm and then taking these skills into the moguls.  It’s not a case of simply bashing up and down a bump field all day but using these skills to find the right line, control your speed and develop the bending and stretching of your legs to maintain good snow contact.  In addition to this there are often opportunities to enjoy some lovely spring snow in April (so we feel no guilt in enjoying this) although the course is very much aimed at skiers keen to improve their bump skiing.

Supplement: £200 per person / £280 per person for non skivo2 guests

Times: 09.00 - 16:00hrs over 5 days
