Le Praz

Le Praz remains one of the most picturesque and pleasant resorts in the Courchevel Valley and was the setting for both cross country and ski jumping events in the 1992 Winter Olympics. This authentic alpine village is set amidst un-spoilt woodland and because of this quiet setting is ideal for a family holiday. Apres ski and nightlife tends toward subdued and centres around several well established local bars and restaurants.

The village and surrounding area sit on a large flat mountain ledge and is very easy to get round on foot with no hills to navigate. A couple of thousand people live there all year round and it has the feel of a real village community. There is a brand new state of the art medical centre school, supermarket, six restaurants, five accessible bars, two ski shops, post office, laundrette, tabac/newspaper shop, two bakers and an excellent butcher who specialises in regional produce – in fact everything you'll need is very close at hand.

This is the Courchvel village most traditionally Savoyard in architecture and ambience and continues to boast the lowest prices across the five levels of the resort. With its narrow streets, quaint centre and old world charm it's an age away from the concrete apartment and purpose built complexes very often associated with French ski resorts.

There is evidence of very early human settlement in Le Praz where a grave was recently uncovered and found to contain two human skeletons and jewellery dating back to the Iron Age (750 BC), however, history aside the real advantage of Le Praz is that you can ski back to both villages throughout the season because the runs are fully serviced with snow cannons. There is also a free to use beginner’s piste, called The Envolée located nearby, adjacent to the lift station.

Additionally Courchevel 1850 is less than ten minutes away via a choice of two gondolas. The Meribel valley is easily accessed from either Le Praz or La Tania and both villages boast numerous welcoming bars and restaurants where the locals provide warm hospitality. Le Praz also has road access to the resort of La Plagne and it's extensive ski area.

At the end of the day many of our guests stop at the Peupliers Hotel (right), at the bottom of the run home where Norbet and Nadine offer the perfect environment in which to relax, either in Norbie's lounge in the winter or at tables outside later in the season to enjoy the early spring sunshine.

Alternatively, why not visit Darbielos where you can find not only excellent restaurant fare washed down by the local brew, Mutzig Old Lager, but also regular live music on Sunday evenings. Somewhat livelier apres ski activities can be found every day in the Le Praz Escorchevel sports bar & pizzeria, with live bands every Tuesday and Friday.
