Courchevel is without doubt one of the world's best ski areas. The Societe des Trois Vallees piste preparation is second to none and this is where other resorts send their staff for training in slope care. Quite simply, the Courchevel valley is ideal for beginners and seasoned skiers alike with easy pistes groomed to perfection running through the centre of resort, offering painless doorstep skiing.
In Courchevel 1850 there is plentiful choice, particularly on the Biolley and Loze sectors. Further up the mountain there are some excellent reds notably; Saulire, Creux and Combe de Pylon. Good bumps are to be found on the Chanrossa, Marmottes and Loze Rouge, areas where we ski our bumps courses.
At higher altitude the slopes are steeper and below the Saulire ridge there's a fan of legendary couloirs, renowned as some of the most difficult black runs in the world.
For great off piste head for the 1650 back country, the fruit bowl or 'Disney Land'. The Courchevel area is also equipped with several themed fun areas, dedicated to the pleasures of winter sports.
The lift system is so efficient that even intermediate skiers can manage the end to end tour to Val Thorens and back without having to rush. In Courchevel the tree line runs up to 2,300m, offering more forest runs than normally found in alpine resorts.
In bad weather there's sheltered skiing in the forests above La Tania and Le Praz. Truly it is difficult to find a resort anywhere in the world which can offer such a diversity of skiing. Because the skiable area is so large, the 1850 kiosk and most of the cable car stations across the valley supply a daily map showing the slopes that have been groomed overnight.
A snowfall history that averages twenty feet of snow per season combined with higher elevation, mostly north facing slopes and the best piste grooming in the Alps - The result is pistes that hold snow earlier, longer, that ice less often. Over five hundred snow cannons are used in Courchevel to 'touch up' heavy traffic areas, and they cover over 25% of the pistes. In La Tania cannons ensure solid runs back to the village through some of the prettiest tree lined areas in the valley.
