Resort Manager Job Description

If you are looking for an intensive and challenging yet very rewarding role – this could be the job for you! We are looking for a hard working and highly motivated individual to manage our 9 chalets in Le Praz and La Tania, Courchevel, one of Europe’s best ski resorts.

Reporting in to the Managing Director the job holder has responsibility for ensuring that the winter resort programme runs smoothly and that the many varied aspects of the role are managed effectively. This is a very busy role which requires dedication, total involvement and proactivity.

We expect all of our team to offer a professional “nothing is too much trouble” level of service to our guests, many of whom return year after year, and you will be expected to fulfil the following duties:

Guest Management

  • Ensure that the highest possible care and level of service is provided to our guests at all times

  • Liaise with all guests to ensure that relevant ski passes are ordered and paid for and available by 9.00am every Sunday morning and that all ski pass monies are recorded and reported to the Managing Director and that all credit card transactions are processed by our UK office

  • Ensure that all guests who require it have had ski hire organised upon their arrival in resort

  • Carry out any guest requests to make sure that our guests have their best skiing holiday ever and carry out evening visits to each chalet

  • Deal with any guest emergency situation and ensure it is resolved satisfactorily (ski injury etc)

  • Ensure literature is widely available in each chalet of weekly events and any other relevant information

  • Distribute Guest Questionnaires at the end of each week and ensure they are collected in and reviewed weekly to identify any potential issues not already identified during the guests’ holiday

Staff Management

  • Manage and oversee the chalet staff and handymen and hold regular weekly meetings

  • Ensure the Chalet Manager checks that the chalets are clean, tidy and welcoming at all times and that chalet service, table layout and additional services (aperitifs, cooked breakfasts, mini bus service etc) are provided as expected and that standards are maintained at all times

  • Ensure that the Chalet Manager makes evening visits to each chalet to obtain guest feedback and to identify and resolve any problem areas.

  • Assist in the pre-season staff training programme

Chalet Management

  • Monitor laundry supplies and ensure they are correctly returned by the laundry and ready for dispatch to the chalets at the end of each week.

  • Ensure a system is in place so that all chalet repairs are carried out effectively and without delay

  • Ensure that all special requests are available as ordered by guests – Kids Tea, highchairs, cots etc

  • Monitor wine supplies, reordering as appropriate and ensure that chalets have ample wine stocks

  • Ensure that each chalet has a full provision of fire logs and reorder when necessary

  • Ensure that all chalets are Health & Safety compliant throughout the season – fire signs, fire extinguishers, fire blankets etc

Resort Management

  • Maintain and develop good relations with our chalet owners, suppliers and contractors

  • Liaise with the Assistant Managing Director to ensure that the crèche programme and baby sitting service runs smoothly and efficiently

  • Ensure that all company minibuses are clean and full of petrol every Friday afternoon in readiness for Saturday Transfer Day

  • Ensure that each company minibus has a skivo2 welcome sign

Administration

  • Ensure chalets keep to budget spend per head on a weekly basis

  • Record all chalet/handymen expenditure against budget on spreadsheets and review regularly highlighting any areas of concern to the Managing Director

  • Place the weekly bread order and ensure that invoicing from the bakery tallies with this

  • Set up and manage a resort shopping rota and monitor to ensure its effectiveness and ongoing workability

  • Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as and when necessary

  • Liaise closely with our UK sales office to ensure that booking schedules are fully understood and catered for and to ensure complete communication of information

Qualifications & Experience

  • Good basic French is essential

  • Previous management experience

  • Previous hospitality experience is desirable

  • Full, clean driving license

  • Computer literate with strong numeracy and administrative skills

Chalet Supervisor and Driver

The purpose of this role is to manage the chalet staff ensuring that they carry out their contracted duties and to ensure the smooth running of all chalets throughout the season. You will act as a Transfer Driver on Saturdays and as required during the season.

You will also work very closely with the Resort Manager as detailed below as various parts of your roles overlap - it is important that a strong working relationship is formed at the start of the season. It is vital to ensure that guests and staff have sufficient opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions through regular contact.

This position is very diverse in its portfolio of associated duties and is non stop and requires total involvement and pro-activity.

This is a challenging and intensive yet very rewarding role and a discretionary bonus is awarded at the end of each winter season based on performance throughout the season.

Staff Management - working with the Resort Manager

  • Manage and oversee the chalet staff

  • Review and deal with any areas of poor performance and quality of service to guests

  • Deliver the pre season staff training in resort

  • Provide enough information and practical assistance to chalet/crèche staff so that they are sufficiently prepared for when the first guests arrive with chalets/crèche/apartments set up to the required standard

  • Hold regular weekly meetings to ensure all staff are fully briefed on the following week's guests

  • Manage the end of season clean-up activity to the required standard

Chalet Management

  • Conduct daily chalet inspections to ensure that the chalets are clean, tidy and welcoming at all times and that chalet service, table layout and additional services (aperitifs, cooked breakfasts, mini bus service etc) are provided as expected and that standards are maintained at all times. The Resort Manager will provide back up as required to ensure all chalets are inspected regularly

  • Ensure that laundry supplies are monitored and ensure they are correctly returned by the laundry and are ready for dispatch to the chalets at the end of each week

  • Ensure that staff have placed all bread orders with the boulangerie on time

  • Collect in all shopping cards after shopping day and ensure that they are returned to the office along with the relevant backup shopping receipts for every chalet

  • Ensure that all chalet repairs are carried out effectively and without delay by the handymen

  • Ensure that all chalets are Health & Safety compliant throughout the season - fire signs, fire extinguishers, fire blankets etc

Resort Management

  • Overall management of company minibuses ensuring that they are clean and full of petrol every Friday afternoon in readiness for Saturday Transfer Day and ensure that each company minibus has a skivo2 welcome sign

  • Carry out transfer driving duties on a Saturday and as requested at other times during the season

  • Liaise daily with the handymen to ensure that they are providing a full back up service to chalet staff as required

Guest Liason - working with Resort Manager

  • Ensure that the highest possible care and level of service is provided to our guests at all times

  • Answer any resort related client queries during their holiday

  • Conduct evening visits to each chalet to obtain guest feedback and to identify and resolve any problem areas

  • Carry out any guest requests to make sure that our guests have their best skiing holiday ever and assist in the booking of non-skiing activities for guests as required

  • Deal with any guest emergency situation and ensure it is resolved satisfactorily (ski injury etc)

  • Ensure chalets are displaying literature of weekly events and any other relevant information

Qualifications, Key Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience either as Chalet Host, Chalet Chef or Chalet Manager is desirable

  • Previous management experience

  • Full, clean driving license

Chalet Host Job Description

Chalet Chef Job Description

Are you either a qualified chef or someone with plenty of catering experience? Would you like to utilise your creative chefing skills whilst working in lovely chalets and spending a winter in Courchevel, one of Europe’s best ski resorts?

Main Duties

  • Ensure that the highest possible care and level of service is provided to our guests at all times

  • Menu planning and design

  • Weekly food shopping for your chalet. Ensure that all guests’ dietary needs are preplanned and catered

  • Responsible for all chalet budgeting and ensuring that there is no overspend

  • Provision of weekly accounts to the Resort Manager

  • Provide hot breakfast, afternoon tea (including a home baked cake), canapés and a three/four course evening meal

  • Prepare and serve a Kids Tea when requested by guests

  • Ensure the chalet kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times.Assist the Chalet Host in keeping the chalet clean and tidy and ensuring that a welcoming and friendly environment is always created

  • Assist in dealing with any guest questions and ensuring that any issues are resolved satisfactorily

Essential Qualifications/Requirements

  • Recognised catering qualification or extensive experience

  • Minimum of 1 year working experience with a qualification or 2 years without a qualification

  • Previous hospitality or customer service experience is desirable

Ski Technician Job Description

Main Duties

  • Responsibility for the stock control of all the skis and boots. Preparing pre and post season inventory and maintaining records of equipment hire and returns including loss or damage throughout the season

  • Keep our equipment stock in first class working order ensuring that when skis are collected by guests, they are sharp, free of burs and waxed

  • Ensuring that equipment is returned at end of each week or arrange collection of this equipment from the chalets

  • Be available in the Ski Store from 1730 – 1830hrs each evening, excluding Wednesday when you must be available from 0830 – 0900hrs

  • Issue of invoice at time of equipment hire (pre-paid or not), using the retained duplicate for collection of hire monies on Thursday evening, if not prepaid or paid at time of equipment issue

  • Delivery of takings and weeks accounts to skivo2 management on Friday evening

  • Guests in La Tania are unable to come to the ski room with ease therefore it is necessary to contact the Orchis and Murettes chalet staff each evening ensuring that all guests remain happy with their hired equipment and that they understand they may change their boots and skis throughout the week

  • On Saturdays you will be required in the ski room all day repairing skis and fitting arriving guests with equipment

Driving Service:

  • Each morning when required between 0830 – 0930hrs to pick up and shuttle transfer beginner guests from La Tania to either meeting point in Le Praz or at Couchevel 1850

  • When required to pick up young children from Christina and Nicola chalets and drive them to the meeting point in Le Praz or at Courchevel 1850

  • Each evening, when required between 1600 – 1730hrs to collect guests from bottom of Le Praz bubble and return to La Tania as required

  • As directed collection and shuttle transfer of crèche nannies and children and returning them to chalets

  • You must drive carefully at all times and never under the influence of alcohol

Additional duties:

  • Help keeps all driveways, paths, steps, balconies and any other hazardous areas clear of snow as required

  • Supports the Supplies & Maintenance Manager in clearance of packaging waste and, during heavy workload periods, in the distribution supplies to chalet

  • Helps chalet staff clear heavy rubbish from and maintain the cleanliness of the exterior of chalets

Handyman/Driver Job Description

Main Duties. Maintenance and Delivery:

  • Monitors damage, breakages and breakdowns for all skivo2 chalets and property and where possible carries out first line maintenance of plumbing or electrical systems. In more serious cases to arrange and oversee repairs carried out by an appropriate technician

  • Maintains a central log of all repairs and renewals and accounts for their cost

  • Ensures the chalet staff can contact you between 1730 – 2000hrs each evening to discuss chalet problems

  • Move and stack wood – ensuring each chalet has sufficient advance stock

  • Pick up and delivery of wine – making sure each chalet is well stocked with wine. This will involve driving to our supplier in Moutiers

Driving:

  • Transfer day Saturday will involve driving to and from Geneva or other airports. At peak periods this may involve two return trips. On occasion you may be required to undertake airport transfers in mid week

  • Each morning when required 0830 – 0930 shuttle transfer pick up in La Tania – taking beginner guests to Le Praz or Courchevel 1850. Pick up from Christina and Nicola chalets and drive young children to 1850 if required

  • During peak periods a mid morning shuttle may be required to return children from 1850 to crèche

  • Each evening when required between 1600 – 1730hrs picking up from bottom of bubble and return guests to La Tania and then pick up of nannies and children and return to chalets

  • You must drive carefully at all times and never be under the influence of alcohol

Vehicle and Maintenance:

  • Maintains vehicle logbook, accounting for all mileage and fuel consumption/costs.

  • Minimises fuel costs

  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicles, including daily clean inside and weekly clean out

  • Maintains vehicles in good mechanical order

  • Reports immediately to skivo2 management any required repairs or replacements and then arranges the necessary work

  • Ensures that vehicles are secured from loss or damage at all times

Additional Duties:

  • Keeps all driveways, paths, steps, balconies and any other potentially hazardous areas clear of snow as required

  • Collects and distributes linen, beds and other special equipment between chalets as required

  • Supports the chalet staff in clearance of packaging waste and during heavy workload periods, in the distribution of required supplies to chalets

  • Assists chalet staff to maintain cleanliness

Resort Nanny Job Description

All nannies must hold a formal qualification allowing them to care for children.

Hours: 08.30 to 5pm (5 days per week pro rata)

Saturday evening meeting parents in the chalets.

Babysitting one evening per week from 19.45

 

Jointly the nannies are responsible for the day to day management of the crèche taking complete charge of the children whilst their parents are skiing. This includes attending to the physical needs of the children (changing nappies, toilet training, providing drinks, snacks and lunch) as well as being responsible for the developmental and emotional needs of those in your care, providing each child with the correct amount of stimulation through toys and activities including love and encouragement when required.

Main duties:

  • To meet the parents and all children on Saturday evenings distributing information sheets outlining the crèche operation

  • Ensuring guests are provided with emergency information that they complete required crèche registration paperwork before the children are admitted on Sunday morning. This may include obtaining signed parental consent for administration of any drugs to children whilst they in childcare

  • Collecting payment for use of crèche facility and babysitting

  • Ensuring all children and babies are suitably dressed, keeping the children warm and hygienically clean (nappies/ toilet)

  • Ensuring that children have a safe area to play and that any necessary safety precautions are in place. Fully supervising these in door and out door games

  • Carrying out safety checks on cots, highchairs and any other equipment used in the course of crèche work. Maintaining equipment and ensuring that toys are kept clean and in good working order

  • Collect and drop off children from ski school or any other activities

  • Complete accident book when required, keeping records of any minor or major injures that occur

  • To answer any questions or resolve any problems that children or parents may have, aiming to do whatever is reasonably possible to ensure the best possible holiday

  • Promptly refer any guest issues or complaints to skivo2 management

  • Implementing the weekly activity schedule and to up date each week depending on age of children and weather conditions

  • Ensure that excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in and around the crèche chalet at all times, including at the end of the season

  • Cleans and tidies the crèche daily, washing linen and tea towels

  • Prepare and serve a hot lunch daily, a mid morning and afternoon snack

  • Organise birthday parties and cakes for children

  • Reporting briefly to parents at the end of the day concerning their child’s activities, accidents, sleeping patterns etc and presenting them with paintings of craft work

Administration:

  • Prepare a weekly shopping list

  • Maintaining good records with respect to anything untoward that may have occurred during the week, eg; bumps and bruises, discipline as a result of anti-social behaviour, parents comments etc

  • Completion of company accident journal where necessary

  • Pre and post season preparation of crèche inventory and to maintain and update this with any household equipment lost or broken during the season.

  • Re-ordering or otherwise making purchase of consumables, on a weekly basis

  • Attending weekly staff meeting to receive advance information on numbers and ages of children arriving in the following week

  • Record working hours and presenting this time sheet on a weekly basis to the Resort Manager
