La Tania

We invite you to discover the secret of La Tania, the very embodiment of a friendly and family resort. Located in the Three Vallees, the most extensive skiing area in the world, and nestling between two traditional Savoie hamlets at an altitude of 1400m, the station lies in the heart of a magnificent forest, where the snow conditions are exceptional. La Tania offers you a protected environment made up of wide open spaces for the perfect winter holiday dream!
Because La Tania has been built and developed fairly recently, all ecological and environmental advances have been included from it's conception, the apartment blocks are built in a semi-circle around the completely pedestrian centre which gives guests the chance to forget that cars exist during their stay. All the buildings are required by the community's building regulations to be wood clad, a material which adds to the general quality of the environment, and helps the integration of the resort into the countryside. The traditional chalets have been developed whilst respecting the architecture of the local Savoyard hamlets.
With easy and accessible links from Le Praz skivo2 guests can set off to discover the 600 km of groomed pistes in the Three Valleys with the guarantee of abundant snow of the best quality and an unlimited off piste ski area. After a day skiing, the resort centre becomes the backdrop for a multitude of entertainment; torchlight descents, sledge races, giant games, synchronised skiing shows and big air shows.
Here the kids can play safely and in total security in the fully pedestrian resort, on skis or on sledges. La Tania has a small sledge area where children can play safely while their parents look after them, situated in front of the La Tania cable car. For those who want to be more adventurous sledging, they can take the Grangettes cable car and then sledge down a 1500m run, with a vertical drop of 230m between Courchevel 1850 and Courchevel 1550; prefect for children of all ages.
The La Tania secret: that which must be kept hidden the better to be protected.
Once there was a hamlet halfway between Méribel and Courchevel, called La Tagna, which meant “the Bear’s dwelling”, a reference to the bears that lived in the Tarentaise forest until the start of the 20th Century. They suddenly disappeared in the 30’s, no doubt hunted down by the mountain folk through fear.
Near this little hamlet, on a beautiful day in 1990, came into being a ski resort soon to be baptised La Tania. The town hall people had thought of erecting a resort in this area since the 70’s, that is why they had a long time to think and to learn from the mistakes others had made.

Jacques LABRO, an architect of renowned talent (Silver medal in 1968 for the resort of Avoriaz) and his team worked hard to preserve this beautiful location by using perfectly integrated constructions, using wood and traditional materials wherever possible.
The Commune of La Perrière is essentially supplied with electric power from a local hydro-electric power station, a non polluting source of energy. To help limit the further energy consumption, all the buildings are built with a very effective system of insulation.
La Tania was chosen as the welcome village of the Albertville 16th winter Olympic games, housing ice hockey teams and some of the international press. Since then, the resort has always attracted an international family clientele, which is seduced, both winter and summer, by the friendliness of this traffic free resort in the middle of the forest, combined with the superlative quality and easy access of the Three Valleys lift system. Grouches may object that its nightlife suffers compared to its bigger sisters, or that the resort's northern exposure restricts its supply of sunshine however La Tania still represents a very special and off-beat way to explore the extraordinary ski area of Three Valleys.
